What is adaptive coaching?
The term ‘adaptive coaching’ is often used in a work environment, allowing managers to identify their employees’ level of ability of a given task or skill, then coaching them accordingly. I believe this should be the way we work with athletes too, especially as our bodies change as we get older.
We should never be using an ‘off the shelf’ training plan, but instead should be factoring in the inherent hormonal changes which happen, regardless of gender as we age, and adapting our training accordingly.

I am passionate that we should continue to be able to train to be the best version of ourselves regardless of our stage in life, and have a particular interest in developing females through the perimenopause and menopause.

My approach
As
someone who has been active for most of my life, I understand how our bodies change and adapt, and like many women, I started to notice changes in my performance, and my hormonal cycle by my early forties.  I was unaware of what exactly was happening to my body, but subtle changes started to become more apparent and suddenly I was experiencing all sorts of weirdness – disrupted sleep, night sweats, bloating, fatigue, and recurring muscle aches and injuries. And despite my exercise and eating patterns not changing, my shape was, as I gained weight,  particularly around my middle.

How can we work with, not against our fluctuating hormones?

I work in a very holistic way, constantly listening to my clients and the way they are adapting not only physically, but also mentally to the training I am setting them. There is nothing more discouraging than being set a plan with targets you may miss due to changing hormonal symptoms, or indeed the stresses of everyday life. Through personalised coaching sessions, I equip women with the tools to embrace hormonal changes, manage stress, and navigate life transitions effectively.  I provide unwavering support as women reset their goals, recharge their passions, and reclaim their true potential.

This isn't the end, it's just the beginning!
Through making the necessary adaptations to my own training, at 57 years old I am achieving better results in my sports than I was in my early thirties. I use the same methodology, albeit in a way that is bespoke to every individual that I work with, to ensure they are also able to achieve their personal goals, and to be the best version of themselves. What do you want to be fit for? I urge you to think about being fit for life!

I am very new to training, is coaching for me?
Although triathlon and multisport is my personal background, nothing gives me greater satisfaction than to see my clients achieve whatever their ambition might be – that could be from running their first 5k, or simply having the confidence to show up at a new activity they have always dreamt of taking up.

Just writing this before I head off to the gym to do my HIIT session.
I've experienced many benefits from having Denise as my coach.  Not least, her energy, passion, insight and personal achievements inspire me beyond words but also she really shoe horned me out of a bit of a rut that I found myself in during the pandemic.
I have a long history of exercise that includes weight training, triathlon, marathon running, climbing, dance and open water swimming but during the pandemic I sort of lost my mojo.   Life events, isolation and menopause conspired to make me tired, slumpy and strangely lacking in confidence.  My body was changing and I didn't like how I was feeling at all.   A knee injury meant I could no longer go running and I simply lost my drive and motivation.  I was nervous about picking up weights again and even going to a gym as I worried about making my injury worse or just simply not knowing what to do with the changes my body was undergoing.
A session in the gym and a HIIT session on my decking with Denise got me fired up again.  Muscle memory fired up again and I started really enjoying the sessions again.  Not just feeling physically fit but having that emotional/ mental outlet that was so much needed in this  challenging life stage in which I was navigating a teenager, elderly parent, running my own business and my changing physiology.   Thank you so much Denise!  Off to the gym now!

I've been very active for most of my adult life, but I realised most training programmes out there cater predominantly to men. It was refreshing to come across Denise Yeats. She understands that women, especially of my age, have unique needs and goals when it comes to fitness.
Her approach isn't just about exercises; it's holistic and personalised. Denise takes the time to truly understand my individual strengths, limitations, and aspirations. She doesn't offer a one-size-fits-all solution; instead, she tailors the programme to suit me perfectly.
What sets Denise apart is her dedication to creating a fitness plan that aligns with my lifestyle and considers my specific requirements. Her emphasis on adapting sports coaching to suit women like me has been a game-changer. The programme isn’t just effective; it’s enjoyable and motivating. Denise doesn't just focus on the physical aspect; she addresses mental wellbeing and overall health. I really appreciate her guidance, support, and the results I'm achieving under her coaching.
If you're seeking a coach who understands women's needs in fitness, values personalisation, and takes a holistic approach, I highly recommend Denise Yeats Coaching. It's been a fantastic journey towards a healthier, happier me, thanks to her!

With Denise’s help I discovered how to find empowerment in my fear, how to tap into my inner potential, how to celebrate every step along the way, how to see victory in every stroke on the bike.  I found resilience, and the most important of all, I found the joy that I was seeking, the confidence to simply try, the desire to try many times and get it wrong many times until one day I get it right.  Denise focused a lot of time at the beginning to make sure I went deep into my motivation, to understand how my mind operates, what to do when I have doubts, how to keep me on track.
Alongside developing my mental strength, Denise has provided me with a very holistic approach to training, full of creativity and variety to keep it interesting whilst developing all the necessary elements.  From nutrition, to age related (peri menopausal) issues, stretching, TRX, yoga, mobility, HRV, there is always something new to explore and learn whilst keeping the main theme consistent.
I was thrilled to have ridden 50km in 2017.  In 2022 I completed the Mallorca 225, and I know I wouldn’t be here without Denise.
Thank you for helping me find my inner hero Denise.  I will be forever grateful.

Denise has been coaching me in triathlon  after I came across her website.
The training sessions she provides are progressive, well structured and completely individual to me based on how I feel from week to week.
As an older athlete who was prone to injury Denise has ensured I can train smarter, not harder without constantly getting injured and suffering setbacks. Very impressive!
Denise gives weekly feedback and this has helped  change my mindset on the best time of day to train for maximum benefits and recovery.
Denise is extremely approachable, fun , motivating and is actually interested in helping me smash my goals.
I highly recommend Denise for anything from novice triathlon events to full Ironman distances and any swim, bike, run,  and strength training.
Denise is 'on it!'

The best thing I’ve done for myself in years was to contact  Denise!
Whilst chatting with a cycling friend she mentioned she’d been working with a coach to help her cycling and strength/conditioning.  As a keen ‘mature’ cyclist I found I was in a rut so followed suit and contacted Denise for a chat to talk about her offerings.
During that first call I knew that Denise was the right person to help me. Denise took time to understand that I wanted to be stronger and fitter on the bike. The weekly bespoke comprehensive training plan in training peaks was ideal.  Denise is a brilliant communicator and collaborative as to what I could manage each week.  Her support and encouragement for the past six months has made a huge difference. I’ve just returned from the best ladies cycling camp where the coaches remarked that I’m a ‘changed cyclist’.
Thanks Denise I couldn’t have done it without you!

Cycling has been my preferred exercise for over 10 years, but I had never had any professional coaching, so working with Denise was a new experience for me. The weekly plans and feedback are all really helpful in helping me achieve cycling goals, building both strength and endurance. Knowing Denise reviews all my workouts feels motivating and supportive. I also learnt lots about my body, recovery, fuelling and hydration. I especially appreciate her focus on women in mid life and the challenges that hormonal changes bring us. Denise has a holisitic, empathetic approach to coaching which I really value.
